Amazing Passplus drive by Amy Bather

4April 2024

What an amazing Passplus drive by Amy Bather last March 24, 2024.
Amy passed her test last November and has only had her car for a few weeks. Until today, she had never driven any journey that was longer than 20 minutes and never attempted a motorway.
Amy decided to complete the Passplus course in one day, and she certainly picked a beautiful location. Ambleside in the Lake District. We were even jammy with the weather too!
Amy opted to do the drive in her own car. We set off this morning, driving through the Mersey tunnel, then drove through Liverpool, Bootle, and Burscough, encountering lots of very poor quality roads, which had multiple potholes and nearly invisible road markings. There were several double roundabouts and complicated unfamiliar junctions to deal with, as well as some national speed limit rural roads in West Lancs before we followed signs to join the M6 motorway.
Despite being anxious about going on her first motorway, Amy seemed to take it in her stride. She made great use of mirrors, and had a lot of awareness of cars in the adjoining lanes, even safely overtaking several caravans and lorries.
We stopped at a motorway service station near Lancaster for a coffee and cake, before continuing our journey to a very scenic Ambleside. We had to be patient looking for a parking space, but we saw someone getting ready to vacate his.
We both felt very lucky to be able to sit outside in the warm sunshine, eating our lunch by the lake.
At one point, we had a car in front of us with a dog sticking its head out of the window, then it seemed to be climbing further out of the car  We definitely envisaged a dog flying towards our windscreen at any minute! (fortunately the owner realised just in time to close the window)
Hopefully, the last March 24, 2024 drive gave you the confidence to drive further afield in your lovely car. It was a fantastic experience and a really enjoyable day!
