Motorway Lessons

Motorway Lessons for Learners?

Since June 2018 learner drivers were allowed drive on motorways for the first time—under the supervision of an Approved Driving Instructor. This is to remove the problem of learners not having the skills they needed to tackle motorways before they had to do it by themselves, alone, as inexperienced drivers. It’s been recognised for a long time that was not a good situation for any road user to find themselves in.

The question you might be asking then is; should you take motorway lessons with Sue?

Motorway driving can be very daunting to learner drivers and that fear can rob them of the independence that driving ought to bring them. Motorways are daunting even though they are amongst the safest roads in the country to drive on. There’s also a lot to learn.

Luckily for today’s learners those problems are now a thing of the past. Sue is here to help you learn motorway driving skills. You’ll learn how to anticipate, plan safely and get used to high speeds.

You’ll learn how to join the motorway, how to get up to speed quickly on the slip road even as you watch out for hazards such as stationary traffic and whilst you are looking for a safe gap to slip into.

You’ll learn how to choose the correct lane. The left lane should be the one you are in for most of the time, the right lane and the central lane are for overtaking only.

You’ll lean how to overtake safely and when it is best to look for gaps in the traffic.

You’ll learn how to proactively manage your speed and judge traffic conditions far in advance so that you can drive more responsively and be aware of hazards.

Motorway lessons with Sue will make your motorway driving experiences safe and worry free. She is trained to take over in any situation – don’t forget the car has dual controls! She will give you the skills you need to drive safely on motorways because experience is always more valuable than theory alone. Sue will help you to build up a great foundation of practical understanding of safe motorway driving. Then, once you’ve passed the practical test, you’ll be all ready to tackle motorways by yourself.

There’s no-one better qualified to teach you how to drive on motorways than Sue.

As your instructor she’s been with you the whole way through. Sue knows exactly what progress you’ve made and how ready you are for this next step. She’s the best candidate for teaching you how to drive on motorways.
