Absolutely brilliant driving by Ryan Wilcox, who completed a six hour, 233 mile pass plus course in just one day yesterday, 30th April 2023!
Ryan contacted me, after passing his driving test in his own car on 11th April, as he wanted to gain more experience, to enable him to drive himself to the West Midlands in June, when he plans a week’s holiday to visit his girlfriend in Wednesbury.
After a short drive around Wallasey, to get used to all of the controls of a different car, we made our way to Wednesbury, following signposts to M53, M56 and M6.
We had a brief stop at services, before final exit junction to stretch our legs, and set the sat nav. Ryan followed the sat nav perfectly, and we arrived at our destination at the ETA we had given.
Although Ryan has visited here on many occasions, it has always been by train, so it was lovely to see he got such a warm welcome as he pulled up outside the house, having driven himself.
I was ready for a break, so I took myself off to McDonalds, picking Ryan up 45 minutes later. Ryan wanted to get a feel driving in some local unfamiliar areas, so we drove to Walsall town centre, and a few other areas he wanted to experience.
We decided to drive back via Liverpool and M62. We drove past Anfield football stadium, seeing quite a few drunken supporters wandering into the road, after celebrating their 4-3 win over Tottenham!
We drove into the city centre, past both cathedrals, then down to Albert Dock and the Liver buildings. We kept seeing large ornamental birds, and wondered what they were (I’ve since found out they are songbirds….in preparation for Eurovision).
We finished off with a drive through the tunnel, and some Wirral country roads. Arriving back at home, Ryan was feeling like his leg needed a good rest (despite using cruise control).
Ryan has a gorgeous red, convertible sports car, with a high insurance quote, but has been told by the insurance company that they will give him £200 discount for completing pass plus!
